SURVIVING ABUSE; CELEBRATING INDEPENDENCE

Guests:   Melissa Torres, survivor;  Shannon Barry, Executive Director, DAIS – Domestic Abuse Intervention Services

What is it like to live in an environment of constant fear and abuse? Too many people – mostly women – across all cultural and economic lines are living this kind of existence. But survivors like Melissa Torres are inspiring women to move out of the shadows of domestic violence and explore the world on their own terms.

Joining Melissa is Shannon Barry who describes how DAIS is empowering women and men to promote healthy relationships and live in a nonviolent community.

DAIS annual Celebrate Independence Luncheon is a visible demonstration of DAIS’s commitment to make Dane County a safer, more just, more equitable place for people who have experienced domestic violence, their children, and the people who love them.

This year’s Luncheon will be Tuesday, June 21, from 11-1:30 am at Monona Terrace Community & Convention Center. Keynote Speaker is Jennifer Siebel Newsom, a renowned filmmaker, advocate and President/CEO of The Representation Project, a nonprofit that uses film and media to create a world free from gender stereotypes and social injustices.
