Guests: Joan Mack, RN, CARE Program Director; Deb Johnson, LPN, Client Coordinator, CARE
Addiction is a complicated chronic illness of the brain – a disease that not only negatively affects the individual struggling with the condition, but also significantly impacts family, friends and the community. The Community Activated Recovery Enhancement (CARE) Program at St. Vincent de Paul Sauk Prairie is an integrated system that assists individuals to abstain from using alcohol and opioids by using the non-addictive medically assisted treatment medication, Vivitrol. Vivitrol combined with mental health and social services and healthy support systems is astonishingly effective for those individuals who are committed to change their lives.
On this program, Joan Mack and Deb Johnson describe the power addiction has over people, how it plays out in real life, and what makes the CARE Program so successful in changing lives. Mel McKenzie, All About Living producer, shares her personal story with addiction in her family and how CARE helped her.
