RESOLVING TO BREAK DRUG DEPENDENCY

Guest:  Bill Vancil, author

In early 2010, Bill Vancil, former VP and General Manager at Mid-West Family Broadcasting, had a liver transplant. After more than three months in the hospital taking pain medication, he emerged physically dependent on oxycodone.  In his new book, Almost An Addict, Vancil describes how after six years of taking continued prescribed dosages, he went about ending the dependency.

On this program, Bill Vancil takes us on his personal journal as he faced the realization of opiate dependency and the desire to free himself from it.  Hear his step-by-step plan for withdrawal which worked for him and just may benefit others who find themselves in a similar situation.

According to Vancil, the difference between an addict and dependency is that an addict doesn’t need the drug in the first place.  Today Bill Vancil’s life is independent of the opiates he required for pain, and he is enjoying life as a freelance graphic designer and writer in Tucson.  Almost An Addict is available in Kindle and paperback formats at almostanaddict.com.
