ONE ON ONE WITH UW’S MUSIC MAN, MICHAEL LECKRONE

Guest: Michael Leckrone, Director (Retired), UW Marching Band and UW Bands…

After 50 colorful years directing UW-Madison’s March Band and serving simultaneously as Director of Bands, Michael Leckrone has retired his baton but will remain on the faculty as a professor in the School of Music. Within the midst of the University’s high academic standards and its competitive Badger spirit, Michael Leckrone stood out as a gifted musician and teacher who injected the spirit of fun into all he did. He has been called a University “icon.”

On this program, Michael Leckrone takes us back to his youth growing up in Indiana through his years at the University of Wisconsin. His stories include describing the behind-the-scenes meticulous planning that went into each half-time performance and the determination to have a Fifth Quarter when Wisconsin played in the Rose Bowl despite push back from the officials in charge.
